Our Parish has demonstrated over the years a deep commitment to the
ministry of service in Christ name in the local community and beyond.
Other projects and ministries we support are:
The Youville Centre on Mann Ave. in Ottawa, which is a programme to support young mothers
and their children, through education and material support. We have over
the past year sent donations of baby & toddler clothes, furniture,
food, diapers and other necessities. Let your neighbours and friends
know that such items are needed and can be dropped off at the Parish
Hall.
The Arnprior Animal shelter, is another programme that we support
by being a drop off point for food, cleaning supplies and equipment.
At the annual Blessing of the Animals celebration on the first Saturday
in October, we welcome the community to come and give thanks for the
gift of creation and the gift of our companion animals. This year, one
of the young people from St.James’ Nora Joyner and her friend Thomas
organized a garage sale in conjunction with the Blessing of the Animals
and raised over $400 to support the Shelter.
Ottawa Inner City Ministries,
whose focus in bring front-line help to youth and others living on
the streets of Ottawa has been supported by the Parish and Sunday School
children over the years. Donations of hygiene products, warm hats,
gloves,
mitts even sleeping bags are always needed.
Our Parish through its annual budget enables the Diocese to support
a range of Community Ministries in Ottawa. Centre 454 is
the major project. But we also support Cornerstone/Le Pilier,
which includes the Emergency Women’s shelter on O’Connor
St. next to the Museum of Nature., assisted housing projects on MacLaren
St., and on Bronson Ave. The
Ottawa Pastoral Counseling, located at the Bronson Centre on Bronson
Ave. provides professional counseling services to the Church and wider
community to enable the Church to carry out it ministry of healing.
The funding provided by the Diocese forms an essential part of the budgets
of these ministries which also receive grants from the City and the
Provincial Government.
In addition to these formal projects our Parish
supports numerous other local groups by allowing use of Parish facilities
at no cost, for example an A.A. group meets weekly at Christ Church,
Scouts use the Parish Hall weekly as well. In addition our facilities
have been used by the Cancer Society, Food Bank, West Carleton Fibre
Guild to name a few.
If there are needs in our local community that
you are aware of that are not being addressed speak to your Wardens
or the Rector.

Centre 454 - The
Parish sends additional support to the work of the centre by donations
of used clothing, mugs, etc. for the drop in. At Christmas we provide turkeys/hams
to help provide for the 1,000 plus meals.
The
Cornerstone - Originally called Women in Crisis this program is
supported by the Parish through its monthly apportionment amounts sent
to the Diocese.
The Well - A drop-in centre

The Food Bank - West Carleton Emergency Food Aid - The work of
the Food Bank which was first housed in the Parish Hall seeks to meet the
needs of our neighbors and friends who need assistance from time to time
with food. The Food Bank is run entirely by volunteers and by donations
