During the period between the founding of Christ Church and the building of St. John's, a terrible catastrophe in the form of the Great Fire of 1870 had destroyed a vast area including the Rectory beside Christ Church (the stone church survived). The new rectory, along with many other businesses and homes that had been destroyed, were built at "The Corner" in the village of Carp in what is now the centre of the Carp Agricultural Fair Grounds. Interim services were held at the Orange Hall.

Finally, in 1889, with both Christ Church and St. John's firmly ensconced, St. James the Apostle was constructed. Many of the families who worshipped there in those first days, continue to be represented in today's congregation. The atmosphere of continuity and familiarity is felt everywhere in this beautiful church.

St. James the Apostle church is located on the Carp Road in the village of Carp.

From Highway 417, take the Carp Road exit and head North on the Carp Road. Enter the village, cross over the main intersection of Carp Rd. and Rivington Rd. and travel up the hill. St. James is at the top of the hill, right beside the Carp Agricultural Fair Grounds.

From Kanata along the March Road (Highway 44), you can turn right onto Rivington and then right onto the Carp Road at the main intersection, or you can turn right onto the Carp Road and carry on right up the hill as described above. To see a map go to:
